In the late ’40s, a British pub in Los Angeles had a considerable excess of vodka and ginger beer that had to be sold as quickly as possible. The owners came up with a more creative way of moving the inventory: they mixed both to create what we know today as the Moscow Mule.

The final ingredient came when a Russian immigrant walked in with an extra 2,000 copper mugs, partnered with the pub’s owner, and started using the mugs as the signature vessel for the cocktail that has now become a household name. So, the Moscow Mule, along with the legendary Moscow Mule Mug, was born.
